A new lens and my favorite lil' lady = new images!

My Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 came in the other week and I was anxious to test it out. Bunky asked if I wanted to come along to take Lexi to the park. Why of course! Let me grab my camera.

Images - "Emerge Vancouver" Vancouver, BC: 11212008

On November 21, 2008, Battered Women's Support Services presented Emerge Vancouver Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes a cultural engagement event to prevent violence against women. Over 1,000 young women, men and adult women and men assembled at Vancity Theatre to watch the groundbreaking documentary by Byron Hurt, "Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes".

The filmmaker was joined by Chuck D, front man for '80's conscious hip hop group Public Enemy, JB The Firstlady, Girl 23, Maestro, Sara Kendall, Heatwave, & Erin Chen-yin as panelists. Panel discussion focussed on male violence against women, feminist leadership with engagement from men to end male violence against women.

I was honored to be asked by Angela McDougal, director, to fly out to Vancouver to document the event. The staff of BWSS and the Vancouver were wonderful. The event was amazing.

Being anxious for the event, as I was given the chance to meet and thank one my inspirations growing up, Chuck D (of Public Enemy). To add the experience, I had a chance to talk with Chuck and the director of the documentary, "Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats Rhymes", Byron Hurt (www.byronhurt.com).
